Allegiant Air expands domestically with 10 new routes

Allegiant Air’s three new routes from Pittsburgh

“Tacky tourists,” ribbon and cake cuttings, aircraft tours and live music welcomed the first ultra low cost carrier, Allegiant Air, to Pittsburgh Airport on 11 February. The carrier commenced three non-stop Florida routes to Jacksonville, Punta Gorda and St. Pete-Clearwater, offering additional affordable options for families, college students and others traveling to the Sunshine State. The day began with a Pack Your Bags and Fly Contest where travelers dressed in “tacky tourist” attire – Hawaiian shirts, flip-flops, straw hats, etc. – and entered to win roundtrip tickets plus hotel credits to each new destination. The afternoon continued with a launch event for the inaugural flight to St. Pete-Clearwater, departing at 5 p.m. from Gate C54, that featured live music by the Rhythm ‘N Steel drum duo, guest speakers including Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Pennsylvania State Senator Matt Smith, Allegiant Public Relations Specialist Laura Billiter and Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis.

On 13 February, Austin-Bergstrom Airport greeted Allegiant Air’s twice-weekly flights from Orlando Sanford with a special ceremony, entertained by Joe “King” Carrasco. Cutting the celebratory ribbon are: Natalie Croutharmel, Austin Chamber of Commerce; Brandon Myers, Allegiant Air; Kathie Tovo, Austin Mayor Pro Tem; Don Zimmerman, Austin District 6 City Council; and Jim Smith, Austin-Bergstrom Airport.

  • Allegiant Air, which during the course of last week touched down at New Orleans with four routes, continued to expand its domestic network with the addition of 10 new seasonal services launched between 11-13 February. With the longest sector being 1,925-kilometre route from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Syracuse (SYR) launched on 13 February; and the shortest being inaugurated on 12 February from Jacksonville (JAX) to Cincinnati (CVG) at 988 kilometres, Allegiant will face no competition on any of the new additions. Interestingly, the average weekly frequency across the 10 new routes is three.
