Celebrating Etihad Airways’ 11th route to India were: Dr. B P Sharma, Airport Director of Airports Authority of India; Neerja Bhatia, Etihad Airways’ GM – India; and Craig Thomas, Etihad Airways’ Regional GM Asia Pacific North and Indian Subcontinent (ISC).
- Etihad Airways began operations to Kolkata (CCU) on 15 February, its 11th destination in India – adding to its existing 121 weekly services to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Kochi, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. The daily services from the carrier’s Abu Dhabi (AUH) hub are flown by its 140-seat A320s, with no direct competition. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ CCO, said: “We’re delighted to add Kolkata, an economic powerhouse and Etihad Airways’ first destination in North Eastern India, to our flight network. This new service will support the growing demand from air travellers, who are keen to fly between West Bengal and the Middle East, Europe and North America via our Abu Dhabi home base.”
