- Regional Express (REX) introduced a new domestic route on 30 March, from Cairns (CNS) to Bamaga (ABM). The 747-kilometre sector will be served five times weekly by the airline’s 34-seat Saab 340s and will face no direct competition from any other airline. Commenting on the route launch, Warrick Lodge, the airline’s GM Network Strategy and Sales, said: “The Northern Peninsula Area service launched today is the start of a commitment by the Rex Group to bring safe, reliable and affordable air services to remote and regional communities, who depend upon sustainable regional air services. This is our way of recognising the significant trust placed in the company by the Queensland State Government through the recently awarded regulated routes.”
