United Airlines Newark to Newcastle
The first ever scheduled service to the USA from Newcastle was celebrated on 23 May with a barbershop quartet called ‘Chordially Yours’, who entertained passengers before they boarded the inaugural flight to New York Newark. Cutting the ribbon are: David Laws, Newcastle Airport CEO; Bob Schumacher, United’s sales MD for the UK and Ireland; Councillor Ian Graham, City of Newcastle Sheriff and Deputy Lord Mayor; Councillor Iain Malcolm, Leader of South Tyneside Council; and the crew of the inaugural flight. Cutting the cake: Bob Schumacher and David Laws.
- United Airlines on 22 May launched its latest destination to the United Kingdom with new services between New York Newark (EWR) and Newcastle (NCL). The new seasonal service will operate five times weekly using the airline’s 169 seat 757-200s until 7 September. Commenting on the route launch, Newcastle Airport CEO, David Laws said: “This is a very proud moment. Today’s inaugural flight to New York Newark is the culmination of many years of work by the team at the airport. United Airlines is a major global operator and, through its New York Newark hub, provides a wide range of onward connections for Newcastle passengers.” Newcastle becomes the 7th UK destination to United’s route network from its New York Newark hub, complimenting services to London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The new route will face no direct competition. See how Newcastle Airport’s FTWA compares to others from around the world.
