United Airlines launches five new routes

Passengers Niall O’Donnell from Dublin, and Katie Hendricks from Chicago, help launch United Airlines’ new daily service to Chicago O’Hare from Dublin. The seasonal service runs from 4 June until 24 September. Celebrating the launch on the apron are: Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport MD; Pat Reede, United’s Sales Manager, Ireland; and Bob Schumacher, United’s MD, UK and Ireland Sales. Cutting the ribbon: Vincent Harrison and Bob Schumacher, along with the inaugural pilots.

Passengers on the first flight from Houston Intercontinental to Providenciales were given a TCI beach bag, courtesy of the Turks & Caicos Islands Tourist Board, although it seems the pilot preferred to have a Subway. Flights will operate weekly using the carrier’s 737-900s.

  • United Airlines launched five new routes this week, starting on 4 June with seasonal service between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Dublin (DUB). The 5,893-kilometre city pair will operate daily using the airline’s 757-200s, facing direct competition from Aer Lingus (11 weekly flights), and American Airlines (daily). A second transatlantic sector was also launched between New York Newark (EWR), and Venice Marco Polo (VCE). The 6,688-kilometre journey will be operated using the airline’s 767-400s, and faces no direct competition. On 6 June, two new services were launched from Houston Intercontinental (IAH), to Providenciales (PLS) and St. Thomas (STT). Commenting on the route launch to Providenciales, Ralph Higgs, Director of Tourism, Turks and Caicos Islands, said: “United Airlines’ new Houston route will undoubtedly expand connectivity to the destination, making the Turks and Caicos more accessible and attractive to potential visitors from the south-west region of the United States”. Finally, new services have been introduced between Chicago O’Hare and Evansville (EVV). Flights began 4 June and will face direct competition in the form of American, who operate 26 weekly services on the airport pair.
