Hainan Airlines Beijing to San José
Touchdown in San José! Hainan Airlines arrived in Silicon Valley on 15 June, the airline’s fourth US destination from Beijing. Joining in the celebrations which included gift exchanges and a ribbon-cutting ceremony were: Mu Weigang, Vice Chairman, Hainan Airlines; Sam Liccardo, City of San José Mayor; Luo Linquan, Consul General of China in San Francisco; Matthew Mahood, President & CEO, San José Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce; Kim Becker, Director of Aviation, City of San José; Carl Guardino, President and CEO, Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
- Hainan Airlines has begun operating to its fourth destination in the US with the commencement on 15 June of flights from Beijing (PEK) to San José (SJC) in California. The 9,539-kilometre route will be served five times weekly by the airline’s 213-seat 787-8s and faces no direct competition. The Chinese carrier already serves Boston, Chicago O’Hare and Seattle-Tacoma direct from Beijing, and will be starting additional US services in the coming weeks. City of San José Mayor Sam Liccardo, said: “Mineta San José International Airport is the choice for Silicon Valley executives who travel to Asia. We congratulate Hainan Airlines on its inaugural nonstop service between Silicon Valley and Beijing which commences today and thank our newest international carrier for its significant investment in San José. I strongly encourage all business and leisure travellers to fly Hainan’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner to mainland China from SJC.” Hainan Airlines Vice Chairman Mu Weigang, said: “Since we began our Seattle route in June 2008, hundreds of thousands of people have experienced the award-winning service that Hainan Airlines provides between the U.S. and China. Now we are looking forward to welcoming even more travellers from Silicon Valley. With the growth of the technology industry, trade between China and the US, and especially this region, has expanded.” City of San José Director of Aviation Kim Becker, added: “We warmly welcome Hainan Airlines to Silicon Valley’s airport today.
