Airbus becomes main sponsor of anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run!
In a massive step of recognition for the importance of the anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run as the leading sporting charity event for the global aviation industry, Airbus has stepped up as the main sponsor of the good causes. It will also send up to 12 runners to participate in the 10km race which takes place on Budapest Airport’s runway 13R-31L at 11.00 on Saturday 5 September 2015.
On this day, Budapest Airport will close one of its two runways for four hours so runners drawn from airlines, airports and enterprises across the aviation community can once again compete for a series of anna.aero-Budapest Airport “Golden Cake Trophies”, including the key team prize of “The Fastest Airline in the World” – a title currently held by the CEO-led Aer Lingus team.
As well as Aer Lingus – a big Airbus customer and also buyer of the revolutionary A350-900 – a host of other major Airbus users are already embedded in the runway run including the CEO of Wizz Air, which is Budapest’s biggest airline, as well as airberlin, Emirates, Qatar Airways etc, etc. 609 runners took part last year; 1,000 are targeted for 2015.
Christopher Buckley, Airbus’ EVP Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific said: “Airbus is a hugely enthusiastic promoter of sports, fitness and well-being across our workforce of 55,000 people. We therefore wholeheartedly applaud the aims of the anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run as a means of bringing airlines, airports, and all the aviation community together in a great sporting event, which also benefits worldwide child cancer charities and other great causes. We are honoured to support this event, and our teams look forward to taking part in a race on what must be the most level competitive surface in the world.”
Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport was equally effusive: “”Airbus is the preeminent, highly competitive, plane-maker, so we are absolutely thrilled to have them as the main charity sponsor of our competition – it sends a message to the world that the anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run is serious about bringing the world’s airlines, airports and air transport industry partners together, in Budapest, at one single sporting event for the benefit of our closely-held good causes.”
The runway run consists of two race distances – 10km (four runway lengths) and 5km. Runners can take part on an individual basis, or form teams of three or more (only the fastest three runners’ times count towards the team times).
All entry fees – just €30 before July 2015 and €50 thereafter – are entirely donated to international child cancer causes and a Hungarian charity assisting with the inclusiveness of handicapped people in sports. Besides nine air transport industry trophies every finisher receives “The Bron’s Medal” named for Brontë “Bron” Hogan, the anna.aero publisher’s 12-year-old daughter, who passed away in 2011 after a five-year battle with leukaemia.
