Letter from Addis – Ethiopian Airlines joins Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run

Ethiopian Airlines joins Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run

Ethiopians have the famously fast runners – and now they want Fastest Airline in the World: Surafel Saketa, an Ethiopian Airlines’ Strategic Planner: “I will prove to the world at the Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run that Ethiopian Airlines is the fastest airline ever!!!!!”

We are thrilled and honoured to have an entry for the Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run from Surafel Saketa, an Ethiopian Airlines’ Strategic Planner. He wrote us this lovely letter which we’re delighted to share with the anna.aero community today.

Dear anna.aero

Greetings from Ethiopia!

My name is Surafel Saketa Geleta and I am 25 years old. I am a Strategic Planner at Ethiopian Airlines Corporate Strategy and International Affairs.

I love running so I am really glad to participate in the Budapest Airport Runway Run. Recently I participated in two of the Ethiopian Great Runs. These are 12k runs but are much harder than the Budapest Runway Run as they are a cross country rally in the suburb of Addis – very muddy and sticky around summer.

I am so looking forward to a great and memorable time in my stay in Budapest and the fun of my participation in the Budapest Airport Runway Run – something I will pay back to the world because this is a charity event.

Ethiopian Airlines is the biggest, best, most reliable and fastest growing airline in Africa. It is really a good place to work and I am really proud to serve my airline in the strategic area and to be part of the success which comes from careful planning of a long-term path.

I will prove to the world at the Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run that Ethiopian Airlines is the fastest airline ever!!!!!

See you in Budapest!

STOP PRESS!!! More Ethiopian Airlines runners!!!

Hello anna.aero!

I was born here in Ethiopia in 1985 which makes me a 30 years old now 🙂 . I actually do not run regularly at the moment but I am pretty athletic as I go to gym three times a week. I am as skinny as the professional runners like Haile Gebreselassie or Kenenissa – our long distance running champions 🙂 .

I joined Ethiopian Airlines in 2009 as a marketing clerk. I have had a great time working here with a lot of energy, and I am now a Marketing Officer in charge of pricing and the revenue management department. It is well-known that Ethiopian Airlines is one of the fastest growing airlines in the industry. I believe I have a big contribution to make to this development.

So I am very pleased to take part in this Airbus-sponsored contest, after all Ethiopian Airlines will be customers of Airbus soon! [With deliveries of 12 A350 XWB from 2017]. I am going to run as fast as I can for my employer – in fact I am dead sure I will be a winner and a great ambassador for both my country and Ethiopian Airines at the Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Runway Run together with my colleagues.

Yoseph Belay

Marketing Officer (in charge in pricing and Revenue Management department).

More Ethiopian Airlines runners!!!

Ethiopian Airlines’ Marketing Officer Yoseph Belay: “I am dead sure I will be a winner and a great ambassador for both my country and Ethiopian Airines.” A third runner, Yimer Awaju, has also entered, completing the Ethiopian Airlines’ team – we’ll bring you details on his entry as soon as we have them.

1,000 runners have been targeted for the Airbus-sponsored anna.aero-Budapest Airport Runway Run – last year 609 competitors took part in the air transport industry’s signature charity race which takes place on the airport’s runway 13R-31L at 1100 on Saturday 5 September 2015. There are two race distances – 10km (four runway lengths) and 5km. Runners can take part on an individual basis, or form teams of three or more. Last year’s winner of “The Fastest Airline in the World,” Aer Lingus, will again compete with four teams and a total of 12 runners, once again led by its CEO, Stephen Kavanagh.
