Columbus crew crows over certificate ceremony

Although Columbus Airport photographed the entire Rural Metro Special Forces crew on duty, the guy in the centre (wearing shades) with the certificate is one of the two fire fighters who performed the water cannon salute for Southwest Airlines’ inaugural Boston flight on 8 August. The certificate was presented by Public Safety Director and Chief of Police Phil Gehrisch and Rural Metro Fire Chief William Bettac.
In terms of the number of FTWAs received in 2015 versus the amount received by the same stage last year – it couldn’t be any closer. Although there had been 30 weeks of competition by 20 August last year, in comparison to just 27 by 19 August this year, there has been an almost identical amount of FTWAs sent in by the world’s airports – with 188 sent in for last year’s competition against 194 in 2015. Of the 170 scored by the anna.aero judges (24 FTWAs were scored by the public) this year, the average score achieved has been 25.9. This is just ahead of the 25.1 racked up by the 161 (27 were scored by the public at the start of the S14 season) FTWAs pored over by our in-house experts. So more FTWAs and higher global standards in water arch excellence has been achieved. In the inter-regional battle for supremacy, Europe, which hasn’t won for three weeks again, must be nervously looking over its shoulder at Asia, which has narrowed the gap to just two wins. Keep Monitoring!!

Dragonair Hong Kong to Hiroshima 15 August

The mountains in the background clearly influenced this FTWA…and the weekly win…
Judge’s Comments: With reviews suggesting “Great food” and “Book a table ahead” at the #1 restaurant (according to TripAdvisor) in Hiroshima ‒ Guttsuri-an ‒ anna.aero hopes that the airport’s firefighters have got its telephone number so they can reserve a table for the celebratory meal crowning their Arch of Triumph success. We recommend the Sashimi…

SA Airlink Cape Town to Pretoria 16 August

Vehicles on the right-side 3; vehicles on the left-side 0…
Judge’s Comments: If that was a football score above then we could also say that this was an FTWA of two halves – one you can see, and one you can’t. On that basis, we can only score for the half we can see, which wasn’t that bad. Unless of course all three of Pretoria’s ops vehicles (this was the airport’s first scheduled service) are present on the right of the picture? A mystery perhaps best never to be solved…
