  • WestJet launched services between Calgary (YYC) and Houston Intercontinental (IAH) on 8 September. The 2,810-kilometre sector will operate six times weekly according to OAG, and will be flown using the carrier’s 737-700s. Competition on the airport pair comes in the form of Air Canada and United Airlines, both of which operate between the cities with a 20 times weekly service, and both co-operate on the route due to being Star Alliance members. Commenting on the launch, Chris Avery, WestJet VP, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development, said: “As the two largest oil cities in North America, Calgary to Houston is the most-requested route from our corporate travel clients in Western Canada. With the challenges facing the energy sector today, there has never been a better time to take a serious look at our lower fares, amenities in Plus, the benefits of our WestJet Rewards program, and our ever-expanding network of destinations.” Stephan Poirier, Senior VP and CCO for the Calgary Airport Authority, added with further comment: “WestJet’s newest service to Houston, Texas, will be a great addition for Calgary’s business and leisure travellers looking to connect to the centre of space exploration and capital of the international energy industry.”
