- Hainan Airlines has increased its regional network with a new service between Haikou (HAK) and Macau (MFM). The 406-kilometre route, which launched on 29 September, will be flown thrice-weekly (Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays) by the airline’s 737-800s and faces no direct competition. This is the airline’s first service to Macau. Hainan Airlines now serves 24 destinations non-stop from Haikou. Macau becomes only the third international route for Hainan Airlines from Haikou after Bangkok and Taipei. Haikou becomes the 20th Chinese airport to be connected to Macau with non-stop flights. Last year Haikou Meilan International Airport saw traffic growth of 16.1% to 13.85 million passengers, ranking it 19th among Chinese airports.
