Welcoming the inaugural Jetstar Airways service from Wellington with a superb water arch salute on 28 October is Dunedin Airport’s fire department. The airline will face direct competition on the domestic service from national carrier Air New Zealand.
- Jetstar Airways commenced services between New Zealand’s capital Wellington (WLG) and Dunedin (DUD) on 28 October. The 631-kilometre domestic link between the two airports will be operated by the carrier thrice-weekly using its A320s on the service. The connection between the two cities however does face strong competition from national carrier and Star Alliance member Air New Zealand, which operates a total of 32 weekly flights according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. Jetstar Airways’ only other route from Dunedin is to Auckland, which the airline serves daily and also in direct competition with Air New Zealand. Vote for Dunedin Airport’s fire truck water arch.
