Thai AirAsia increased its network at Utapao airport from two to six routes with the launch on 27 November of new daily flights to Chiang Mai, Macau, Singapore and Udon Thani. A seventh route to Hat Yai begins shortly. Two A320s will now be based at the airport in eastern Thailand.
- Thai AirAsia has launched a total of four new routes from its fifth and newest base in Thailand at Utapao (UTP), all on 27 November. All four routes (two domestic and two international) will be served with daily flights, and three of them will face no direct competition. The airline launched flights from Utapao to Nanchang and Nanning in China in September, while AirAsia already serves Utapao from its Kuala Lumpur base. With the launch of Hat Yai services in early December this brings to eight the number of destinations served by AirAsia Group airlines this winter. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, commented: “We are proud to have started and to be a part of Utapao Airport’s burgeoning vibrancy and ability to welcome commercial air travel. We have stationed two Airbus A320 airplanes at Utapao Airport, which serve a total of eight routes; to the already operational destinations of Kuala Lumpur, Nanning and Nanchang, to Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Singapore and Macau, starting 27 November and to Hat Yai starting this 3 December.”
