Shaking hands after cutting this huge route launch cake to mark the start of Air Europa’s service from Madrid to Asuncion in Paraguay were: Antonio Rivas, Ambassador for Paraguay in Spain; Juan José Hidalgo, Air Europa President; and Oscar Stark, Vice-Minister for Industry in Paraguay.
- Air Europa started flights from its Madrid (MAD) hub to Asuncion (ASU) on 16 December. The airline’s new Paraguay service marks the return of the direct connection between the Latin American country and Europe. This first service departed the Spanish capital with a 98% load factor and will be operated twice-weekly (Wednesdays and Sundays) by Air Europa’s 299-seat, A330-200 equipment. There is no competition on the 9,185-kilometre sector, and the launch helps to confirm Madrid’s pre-eminence in Europe with regards to Latin American connections.
