- Qantas returned to San Francisco (SFO) on 18 December, commencing non-stop services from Sydney (SYD) to its network again. The airline will operate select flights through December and January, with six flights per week beginning in February. All flights will operate using 747-400s. United Airlines will provide competition on the 11,943-kilometre sector, offering a daily service. The airline also commenced domestic services from its main hub airport to Sunshine Coast (MCY) on 21 December. Operating five times weekly with Qantas’ 717 fleet, the 835-kilometre sector will face stiff competition from the route’s incumbents – Jetstar Airways (31 times weekly) and Virgin Australia Airlines (nine times weekly).
