Transavia opens Munich base

Transavia opened its latest base at Munich Airport on 25 March. To celebrate the airport handed out selfie sticks to passengers on the inaugural fights for a social media contest for who could get the best photo of the launch. On 31 March the carrier welcomed it its 10,000th passenger to use the new services. Greeting the 10,000th passenger are Alexandre de Juniac, Chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM and Mattijs ten Brink, MD & Chairman of Transavia Holland. The carrier has launched services from the German gateway to Brussels, Copenhagen, Faro, Marrakech, Naples, Palma de Mallorca, Pisa, Porto, Seville and Venice Marco Polo.

On 27 March Porto Airport welcomed the arrival of Transavia’s inaugural service from Munich. The 1,788-kilometre sector will be operated thrice-weekly onboard the carrier’s 737-800 fleet. The Portuguese airport celebrated the launch with a Bavarian styled cake.

A further two aircraft will join in May to offer a further six routes. Of the airline’s sectors which opened this week only one, a 1,788-kilometre link to Porto (OPO), currently faces no incumbent carriers. The average frequency of the carrier’s new services from Munich is 4.2. On 1 April the airline launched a further two routes, namely from Eindhoven (EIN) and Nantes (NTE). On 4 April a further route was added from Amsterdam (AMS) to Bergerac (EGC). The average frequency of the carrier’s final three routes to be launched is two.
