Air India Express starts two new UAE services from Mumbai
Air India Express has grown its presence in Mumbai (BOM) with the addition of two new daily services to Dubai (DXB) and Sharjah (SHJ). Both routes were launched on 7 April using the LCC’s 737-800s. From Mumbai the airline already serves Doha in Qatar. While competition on the 1,912-kilometre route to Sharjah is limited to Air Arabia’s twice-daily service, the 1,926-kilometre Dubai route is already extremely well served. Air India Express will be going up against six other carriers on the route to the world’s busiest international airport according to OAG Schedules Analyser data; Jet Airways (with 42 weekly flights), Emirates (35), IndiGo (14), Air India (seven), SpiceJet (seven) and flydubai (five). Air India’s in-house LCC already serves Sharjah from Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Varanasi, while flights to Delhi are set to start in May. Mumbai becomes the tenth Indian airport from which Air India Express operates direct services to Dubai.
