- Iberia has added another Latin American destination to its burgeoning Madrid (MAD) hub, with the start of thrice-weekly operations to San Juan (SJU) in Puerto Rico – this year’s Routes Americas hosts. The 6,375-kilometre sector, flown by the IAG-owned carrier’s A330-200 fleet, becomes its third destination in the Caribbean, adding to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and Havana in Cuba. Started on 15 May, the new route will face direct competition on the airport pair from Air Europa, which offers a twice-weekly operation.
