British Airways has launched four new routes from its fourth London airport this week, adding flights to Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca from London Stansted. Celebrating the launch are Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ GM Commercial and Customer at BA CityFlyer and Andrew Cowan, CEO, London Stansted, along with British Airways cabin crew members Paulina Stasiak and Danielle Bellini. Flights to Berlin begin in June.

  • British Airways has launched four new routes from its fourth London airport this week, adding flights to Faro (FAO), Ibiza (IBZ), Malaga (AGP) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) from London Stansted (STN) – the first time it has operated from the airport. All routes are served from two or more of its other London bases – with all four destinations served from London City and London Heathrow, while Palma de Mallorca is currently not operated by the airline from London Gatwick. Competition on all four sectors is fierce, with at least two incumbents present on each airport pair, offering on average 26 weekly flights per route. Andrew Cowan, Stansted’s CEO, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that every seat on the first ever British Airways flights from Stansted completely sold out this weekend. We were confident these new services to Faro, Malaga, Palma and Ibiza would prove popular with passengers and this really positive start is a clear demonstration of the strength of demand that exists across the region. We now look forward to welcoming the addition of a new Berlin service next month and working closely with British Airways over the summer to build on this strong start and ensuring these exciting new flights continue to be a great success.” Flights to Berlin Tegel will begin on 19 June. Although British Airways itself has not previously operated from London Stansted, its in-house LCC Go had its main base there between 1998 and 2002, before being absorbed by easyJet.
