Thai AirAsia X began flights from Bangkok Don Mueang to Tehran in Iran on 22 June, while service to Muscat in Oman begins on 28 June. This week saw the AirAsia Group return to Iran after a four-year hiatus, as AirAsia X resumed flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tehran on 21 June.
- Thai AirAsia X has launched its first route to Iran with the commencement of thrice-weekly flights between Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) and Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA). The 5,465-kilometre route will be flown thrice-weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) using the airline’s 377-seat A330-300s and faces no direct competition. However, Mahan Air does operate six times weekly between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Tehran using its venerable A310s. Mr. Nadda Buranasiri, CEO of Thai AirAsia X, said: “Iran as a travel destination offers a unique civilisation that Thai tourists will be thrilled to explore. Under its ‘Ancient Elegant’ concept, the country presents artifacts and architecture of great value.” Tehran becomes the airline’s fifth destination after Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo with Muscat in Oman becoming the sixth destination on 28 June. This week also saw AirAsia X resume flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur after a four-year hiatus.
