Aeromar starts three new domestic routes in Mexico

  • Aeromar, the Mexican regional carrier, launched three new routes on 14 July. An ATR 42 operates four times weekly between Mexico City (MEX), Oaxaca (OAX), Tuxtla Gutierrez (TGZ) and Villahermosa (VSA). All three sectors are under 400 kilometres in length. Aeromar only faces competition on one of the routes, that between Mexico City and Oaxaca. This summer the carrier will operate on a total of 28 airport pairs of which 17 are from Mexico City. Last summer the corresponding figures were 23 and 17. In 2015 the airline had around 1.3% of the Mexican domestic market in terms of passenger numbers, carrying 483,275 passengers according to Mexican government statistics. In the first five months of 2016, Aeromar’s domestic passenger numbers have grown by just under 5% when compared with the same period of 2015. This compares with domestic growth of over 11% this year across all airlines in Mexico up to May.
