Interjet now serves three destinations in Cuba with the addition on 14 July of a new twice-weekly (Thursdays and Sundays) service to Santa Clara (SNU) from Mexico City (MEX) using its SSJ-100s. The 2,012-kilometre route is not served by any other carrier and becomes the airline’s third Cuban destination from Mexico City after Havana and Varadero. In addition the carrier serves Havana from Cancún, Merida and Monterrey. With 41 weekly flights this summer between Mexico and Cuba, Interjet accounts for around half the flights between the two countries with Aeromexico (30%) and Cubana (20%) sharing the rest. In the first five months of this year the airline carried almost 681,000 passengers on its international services, an increase of almost 50% on the same period in 2015.
