Wizz Air welcomes four Cluj routes with fifth based aircraft

Wizz Air welcomed its fifth based aircraft to Cluj-Napoca this week, while also linking the Romanian regional city to Alicante, Billund, Bucharest, and Doncaster Sheffield.

  • Wizz Air added a fifth based aircraft to its Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) base this week, which has allowed the carrier to open international routes to Alicante (ALC), Billund (BLL) and Doncaster Sheffield (DSA). The carrier also opened its first Romanian domestic link, inaugurating a six times weekly service between Bucharest (OTP) and Cluj-Napoca. Looking at OAG schedules, this is currently Wizz Air’s only domestic route, with it having previously operated domestic routes in Ukraine before scaling back operations in the nation. In total Wizz Air now serves 28 destinations from Cluj-Napoca, with it being the ULCC’s seventh largest airport in relation to weekly seats (based on w/c 26 July). Of Wizz Air’s new routes, only the connection to Bucharest will face direct competition, with all four routes being flown on the airline’s A320 fleet.
