SCAT Airlines heads for Hainan Island

- SCAT Airlines of Kazakhstan has begun a weekly (Saturday) service between Almaty (ALA) and Sanya (SYX), the Chinese leisure destination on Hainan Island. The 4,110-kilometre route will be flown by the carrier’s 757-200 fleet and faces no competition. The inaugural flight was on 15 October and marked the airline’s first scheduled service to China and first international route from Almaty. The outbound flight leaves Almaty at 01:00 arriving in Sanya at 09:35. The return journey leaves the Chinese airport at 11:40 getting back to the former Kazakh capital at 16:40. SCAT Airlines’ current fleet comprises 16 aircraft; four 757s, six 737s and six CRJ 100s. The carrier operates some 60 weekly departures per week from both Almaty and Astana and now serves a total of 12 destinations from Almaty, of which 11 are to other points in Kazakhstan.
