Sichuan Airlines has become the sixth Chinese carrier to serve the US. On 17 October the airline began a twice-weekly (Mondays and Thursdays) service from Chengdu (CTU) via Hangzhou (HGH) to Los Angeles (LAX). The carrier will operate A330s on the route. No other carrier operates the 10,577-kilometre route between Hangzhou and Los Angeles. For the Chinese airport, located less than 200 kilometres from Shanghai, it is the second non-stop route to the US as United Airlines already operates thrice-weekly to San Francisco. On the route between Chengdu and Los Angeles, competition comes from China Eastern Airlines which operates thrice-weekly via Nanjing.
