Malindo Air starts second route to Thailand

  • Malindo Air has added a second destination in Thailand to its network from Kuala Lumpur (KUL). The airline now serves Chiang Mai (CNX) with daily flights, using its 162-seat 737-800s, complementing the carrier’s existing services to Bangkok. The 1,806-kilometre route is already flown twice-daily by AirAsia. Malindo Air flight OD 530 departs every day from KLIA at 10:35 arriving at Chiang Mai at 12:20 local time. Chiang Mai is one hour behind Kuala Lumpur time. The return flight departs Chiang Mai at 13:40 and arrives back in Malaysia at 17:25. CEO of Malindo Air, Chandran Rama Muthy, said: “Today marks another milestone for Malindo Air as we offer connectivity from Malaysia to Chiang Mai, a popular international holiday destination in Thailand. We are continuously looking to expand our reach to provide customers across the growing Malindo Air network with more travel options. Travellers from Malaysia will now be able to access this exciting destination conveniently in just two hours and 45 minutes with our impressive low fares.” A third Malindo Air route to Thailand (this time to Phuket) is set to launch on 10 November. According to OAG data for the first week in November, AirAsia is the leading carrier in the Malaysia-Thailand market with some 42% of seat capacity, well ahead of Malaysia Airlines (20%), Thai AirAsia (14%), Thai Airways (9%) and Malindo Air (9%).
