The sky looks a bit grey in the Seychelles for the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the arrival of Turkish Airlines’s first service on 31 October. The route will be served thrice-weekly by the Star Alliance carrier using its A330-series of aircraft.
- Turkish Airlines has launched its first new route from Istanbul Atatürk (IST) since the beginning of September (when it launched Cluj-Napoca in Romania), with the addition of Mahé (SEZ) in the Seychelles to its network. The Star Alliance carrier’s first flight on the 5,752-kilometre route was on 31 October. The route will be flown thrice-weekly by a mix of the airline’s A330-series aircraft and faces no direct competition. Normally flights are scheduled to arrive in the Seychelles at 05:45 but the inaugural flight was greeted by a water arch salute and local interest at the more media-friendly time of 09:55. Turkish Airlines already serves another leisure destination off the coast of East Africa, namely Mauritius. Vote for Mahé’s cake in this week’s competition.
