SpiceJet has added another non-stop destination from its sixth biggest base at Kolkata (CCU). On 1 November the carrier began daily flights on the 771-kilometre route to Visakhapatnam (VTZ) using its Q400s. The route is already operated non-stop on a daily basis by IndiGo with its A320s. This raises to 14 the number of destinations served non-stop by SpiceJet from Kolkata, four of which have started since the beginning of October. Of these routes, 13 are domestic with Bangkok being the airline’s only international connection. SpiceJet now accounts for around 11% of seat capacity at the airport, about the same as both Air India and Jet Airways. However, IndiGo is the dominant carrier in Kolkata with 47% of scheduled seat capacity.
