According to flightradar24.com the inaugural Vietnam Airlines flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Chengdu departed 21 minutes late, but arrived nine minutes early. No other carrier currently connects these two cities with non-stop flights.
- Vietnam Airlines has enhanced its presence in China with the launch on 12 January of a new three times weekly service between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Chengdu (CTU). The 2,213-kilometre route will be operated by the SkyTeam member’s A321 fleet. No other carrier operates the route. Flights depart Vietnam on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 19:35 arriving in Chengdu at 00:15 the following morning. The return flight departs Sichuan Province at 01:15 getting back to Ho Chi Minh City at 04:00. This is the airline’s third Chinese route from Ho Chi Minh City (after Guangzhou and Shanghai Pudong) but 25th in all as the carrier offers 13 Chinese routes from Nha Trang, five from Da Nang and four from Hanoi. In the Vietnam-China market Vietnam Airlines accounts for 39% of weekly seat capacity, ahead of China Southern Airlines (25%), China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Jetstar Pacific Airlines, each with 6% of the market.
