Middle East’s early win in Arch of Triumph 2017

After two weeks of competition in 2017, there have been only four entries into this year’s battle for FTWA supremacy and new route marketing excellence. This is a sluggish start, especially when compared to the previous year’s of competition at this early stage: in 2014 there were 10 entries; 14 in 2015; and seven last year. Perhaps the secret to this lacklustre start lies in the dearth of entries from Europe. Indeed, looking back into the FTWA annals, Europe has provided only five of the 35 entrants in the first two weeks of January since 2014. So hopefully next week will see the FTWA behemoth awaken – the region provided 49% of the 360 entries last year – like some mighty Kraken rising from its annual deep Christmas slumber. Keep monitoring!!

Blue Air Bucharest to Tel Aviv 12 January

One hit wonder

Some substantial apron clutter…and the potential for a water jet to wing tip clash here in Tel Aviv…

Judges’ comments: This is only the second time that Tel Aviv has provided us with an FTWA to judge. The first time was 13 months ago in December 2015, when the airport’s firefighters scored 23.1. This week’s result, which given the fact it was the only entrant and inevitably the weekly winner, is 11% better…well at least the score was, coming in at 25.6 this time. If that level of improvement continues, the Israeli airport will achieve a score in excess of 28 in its next entry in 13 months time, around February 2018…

Jonny: 5.5; Marc: 6.8; Paul: 7.0; Ralph: 6.3.
