Brrrrrrrrrr! Looks cold on the apron in Rovaniemi. Germania started twice-weekly flights from its fourth biggest German base Berlin Schönefeld to the Finnish city on 29 January.
- Germania has commenced its second route between Germany and Finland, this time linking Berlin Schönefeld (SXF) – its fourth largest German base – and Rovaniemi (RVN). The 1,714-kilometre sector, which started on 29 January, joins the airline’s existing route between the countries – Düsseldorf to Kittila. The twice-weekly (Wednesdays and Sundays) service will be flown by the airline’s 148-seat 737-700 fleet, and faces no direct competition. According to OAG data the service will operate just 15 times in total this winter. Rovaniemi’s only other scheduled international services in February are to London Gatwick (Norwegian), Tel Aviv (Israir) and Zurich (Germania Flug). In 2016 the Finnish airport saw total passenger numbers increase by 2% to 488,000 while international traffic was up a healthy 22% to 90,000.
