British Airways boosts bases with four new spokes

Wielding the cake-cutting knife in Murcia to celebrate the start of British Airways’ new route from London Heathrow were: Xavier Serrano Pérez Customer Service Manager for Murcia, British Airways; Alfonso Sanz Tejero Airport Coordinator, Iberia; and Pedro Vicente Gallut Adán Murcia Airport Director.
There was quite a party in the gate room in Tallinn to welcome the start of British Airways’ twice-weekly service from London Heathrow. VIPs and passengers were entertained by a DJ, and plied with cocktails and nibbles before the inaugural flight.
- British Airways has launched four new routes from its two biggest bases over the last seven days – three regional and one intercontinental. The average sector length of the four routes is 3,111 kilometres, with the shortest airport pair being the 486-kilometre hop from London Heathrow (LHR) to Nantes (NTE) in France, while the longest is the 8,634-kilometre route from London Gatwick (LGW) to Oakland (OAK). The average weekly frequency of the four routes is 2.5, with the busiest new sector being the US service (four times weekly). Only one of the four airport pairs will see any direct competition for the oneworld airline, as the transatlantic war between IAG and Norwegian rages this summer, as the LCC operates the same sector three times weekly.
