On 15 February Thai AirAsia unveiled its plans to add two new domestic routes from Utapao as part of its strategy to connect the regions of Thailand together. Both routes launched on 30 March with daily flights.
- Thai AirAsia has expanded its network from its Utapao (UTP), located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, around 100 kilometres south-east of Bangkok. On 30 March the LCC began daily flights to both Phuket (HKT) and Ubon Ratchathani (UBP) using its A320s. The 586-kilometre route to Phuket will face competition from Bangkok Airways’ existing daily service. The 505-kilometre sector to Ubon Ratchathani faces no such issues. This bring to eight the number of destinations served non-stop from Utapao by Thai AirAsia. This includes five domestic routes as well as international flights to Macau, Nanchang and Nanning.
