- Rhein-Neckar Air launched its newest route from Sylt (GWT) on 5 April, a 629-kilometre domestic connection to Nuremberg (NUE). Operated on 32-seat Dornier 328s, the route will be flown twice-weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) facing no direct competition. “Short-haul and weekend trips to Sylt are now possible thanks to these direct flights with Rhein-Neckar Air,” says Nuremberg Airport MD Dr. Michael Hupe. “Rhein-Neckar Air has recognised the demand in the region for flights to Sylt and convinces with an excellent product.” Also commenting on the launch, Ansgar Gerken, CEO Rhein-Neckar Air, added: “Our flights to Sylt from Mannheim in 2016 were a complete success. Now we are delighted to be able to complete our Sylt schedule with Nuremberg. In particular, the market structure and the high purchasing power of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region confirms why as an airline we made this decision.” When referring to OAG schedules, the route between Nuremberg and Sylt was previously flown by airberlin until 8 October last year, with the oneworld carrier having served the sector weekly (Saturdays) on its Q400s.
