Ellinair expands Russian network with new route from Kavala

Ellinair launches Kavala to St. Petersburg route.

There was a healthy fruit cake at St. Petersburg airport for the passengers on the inaugural Ellinair service to Kavala. Given that the local departure time was 05:00 that’s pretty early in the morning to be eating cake! Even for the anna.aero data elves!!

  • Ellinair on 5 June launched scheduled flights from Kavala (KVA) to Petersburg (LED). The 2,136-kilometre route will be flown every 11 days using the airline’s 737-400s. No other carrier connects these two airports. Flight time is around three and a half hours. Last year, Ellinair carried 29,000 passengers through the Russian airport, up 75% on the 2015 figure. It served St. Petersburg from Corfu, Heraklion, Thessaloniki and Zakinthos. Total passenger numbers between St. Petersburg and Greece grew by 46% last year to 241,000.
