Scoot arrives in Athens for its first European route

Scoot launches Singapore to Athens service.

Cutting the route launch cake at Athens Airport to celebrate the start of Scoot’s first service on 20 June from Singapore are the airline’s CEO, Lee Lik Hsin, and Athen Airport CEO, Yiannis Paraschis. Also in attendance was Ioanna Papadopoulou, Athens’ Director of Marketing & Communications. The route will be flown four times weekly on the carrier’s 787-8s.

  • Scoot launched its first route to Europe in the form of a four times weekly service from Singapore (SIN) to Athens (ATH) on 20 June. The 9,038-kilometre route will be flown using the airline’s 787-8s. Scoot’s parent company, Singapore Airlines, served this market with seasonal flights until the end of S15. Until now, Scoot’s longest sector was the 7,355-kilometre route to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Scoot now serves 18 destinations non-stop from Singapore, as well as a further five destinations on a one-stop service. From 25 July Scoot and Tigerair Singapore (another Singapore Airlines subsidiary which began operations in September 2004) will operate under a single brand, Scoot, though the airline’s code will be TR (from Tigerair Singapore) rather than the current Scoot code TZ. The aircraft used on the Athens inaugural was named Mous-Scoot-Ka being inspired by Moussaka, an iconic Greek baked dish. Lee Lik Hsin, CEO, Scoot, said of the launch: “Scoot is currently the only airline and low-cost carrier offering direct flights between Southeast Asia and Greece via a direct flight between Singapore and Athens. With our debut into long-haul operations, Scoot is planning to launch five more new destinations in the next year, including one long-haul destination and four new short- to mid-haul routes. This will open up new travel options for Asian travellers as well as European ones now with the start of our Singapore – Athens service.” See how Athens Airport’s FTWA compares to others from around the world
