Four days later, SriLankan Airlines CCO Siva Ramachandran was on-hand again, this time lighting the traditional oil lamp together with the operating crew of the inaugural flight to Coimbatore, its 14th destination in India. On the launch Ramachandran said: “We are delighted to extend our services to yet another vibrant city in Tamil Nadu, offering travelers a seamless travel experience from their doorstep to the rest of the world via our global network.

  • SriLankan Airlines launched services on 12 July from Colombo (CMB) to India’s fourth largest city, Hyderabad (HYD), the capital of the state of Telangana. Hyderabad is one of three South Indian cities that SriLankan is commencing operations to, together with Visakhapatnam which launched last week on 8 July, and also this week to Coimbatore (CJB), the second largest city in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu, on 16 July. With these additions, the airline will operate 126 flights per week to 14 cities in India, with existing services to Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Delhi, Gaya, Madurai, Varanasi, Kochi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. The carrier will be offering a four times week service on its A320 family of aircraft to both cities, and neither route faces any direct competition.
