Finnair flaunts a quartet of routes from Lapland

Finnair London Gatwick

Finnair made London Gatwick its second UK capital operation on 14 December when it commenced seasonal flights from Ivalo and Kittila, with the London hub welcoming its newest airline with this cake. Flights from Ivalo will operate on a twice-weekly (Thursdays and Sundays) basis while the Kittila service will be flown weekly (Tuesdays). Both routes will run until the last week of the W17/18 season when referring to OAG schedules.

  • Finnair commenced a quartet of routes from Lapland this week to three European capital airports, namely London Gatwick (LGW), Paris CDG (CDG) and Zurich (ZRH). Gatwick becomes a new point on the airline’s network, joining its existing London Heathrow operation in the UK capital, while CDG and Zurich are both already served from Helsinki. In the week following Finnair’s inaugural services to Gatwick from Kittila (KTT) and Ivalo (IVL), both will face direct competition. However, it should be noted that in 2018 these competing services will have ended according to OAG schedules, having run just for the peak period up to and after Christmas. Neither of Finnair’s new links to France or Switzerland will face competing airlines. All four routes launched by Finland’s national carrier this week will be flown until mid-March, ending just before the start of next year’s summer season.
