- Myanmar National Airlines initiated operations on its new link between Yangon (RGN) and Phuket (HKT) on 25 March. It will serve the 1,004-kilometre sector twice-weekly (Fridays and Sundays) with its E190s and faces no incumbent competition. José Angeja, COO of Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited, said “Yangon International Airport will always be supportive of these sorts of initiatives from our airline partners since these types of efforts bring several win-win advantages for all parties. For the air carrier, it’s an exciting new route with new business opportunities. For the people of Myanmar, it means they can travel directly to one of the most famous destinations in Southeast Asia, and also offers visitors from Phuket a chance to visit our wonderful country. Our airport can fulfil even more capacity since we have plenty of room for growth. As such, I have no doubt that this will be a successful venture.”
