American Airlines initiates 24 domestic connections

American Airlines commenced flights between Chicago O’Hare and Burlington on 7 June, with a press conference taking place at the Vermont airport. Seen speaking to the press is Miro Weinberger, Mayor of Burlington, watched over by Gene Richards, Director of Aviation, Burlington Airport. The oneworld member joins United Airlines on the route.

American Airlines commenced operations to South Bend on 7 June, launching twice-daily flights from its bases at Charlotte Douglas and Dallas/Fort Worth. The Indiana airport baked these two cakes to mark the launches.

American Airlines initiated a route between Washington Reagan and Montgomery on 7 June, with the Alabama airport producing this eye-catching sweet treat showstopper alongside US-themed cupcakes. The oneworld member will offer six weekly flights on the 1,114-kilometre sector from the capital using its CRJ 700 fleet. No other airline links the airports.

Passengers on the inaugural American Airlines flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Key West were presented with a commemorative baseball cap as they disembarked the aircraft in Florida on 9 June. The carrier will offer a weekly (Saturdays) service between its Texan hub and Key West which will operate on the carrier’s fleet of E175s.

American Airlines inaugurated a daily service between Philadelphia and Pensacola on 7 June, with the Florida airport celebrating the launch by hosting a party. Passengers were handed airline, airport and destination-branded goodies.

One of the three international route launched by American Airlines this week was between Miami and Bonaire, an island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean. Together with Aruba and Curacao, it forms the group known as the ABC islands, less than one hundred miles off the north coast of South America near the western part of Venezuela. On hand to greet the inaugural flight from Miami on 9 June were Miss Bonaire, Ruthgainy Frans, and Miss Tourism Bonaire, Carolin Izeline Coffie. The oneworld member will offer a weekly (Saturdays) service between the Miami and Bonaire.
- American Airlines over the past seven days has launched 27 new routes, of which 24 were domestic. The only international connections inaugurated included a weekly (Saturdays) service between Miami (MIA) and Bonaire (BON), an airport pair which began on 9 June. The others were between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Calgary (YYC), plus Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Rekyjavik/Keflavik (KEF), with the latter two having launched two days earlier. Of the 27 routes commenced by the oneworld member this week, only 15 are presently not served by another carrier. Of those which do face competition, 11 will go head-to-head with Star Alliance carrier United Airlines, including all nine routes introduced to American’s network from Chicago O’Hare.
