‘Follow Me’ (or DUS) to Budapest Airport-anna.aero Runway Run!

In it to win it! Düsseldorf Airport is sending a skilled running team to take part in this year’s Budapest Airport-anna.aero Runway Run, with the clear aim to triumph over other airports and take home the Budapest Airport-anna.aero Trophy for Fastest Airport in the World.

Calling all airports – Düsseldorf Airport has signed up to the Budapest Airport-anna.aero Runway Run for the first time in a serious attempt at winning the prize for ‘The Fastest Airport in the World’. Competing against teams and individuals drawn from airlines, airports and other air transport enterprises across the world, the German gateway’s runners will be donning their hi-vis as they plan to be ahead of the pack on the Hungarian Tarmac this September.

Meet the team (or 75% of them): Jürgen Weber, Consumer Marketing Team; Linda Gerritsen, Local Airport-CDM Manager; Michael Hohenecker, Head of Data Management and Examination of Construction; Janine Kolo, Safety Expert; Yildiray Saracbasi, Quality Manager Airport Security; and Constanze Fischer, Architectural Draftswoman. Making up the rest of the team but having to miss the fun of photoshoot for some serious training are: Anne Schäffer, Business Analysis Assistant and Jörn Schneppendahl, Manager Baggage Transport System.

Linda Gerritsen

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Local Airport-CDM Manager.

What is your hometown? – Duisburg / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – Recreational/keep fit runner.

What is your training regime? – once or twice per week between five-15 km mostly after work with my DUS running team.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – No, I am really excited!

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Only sometimes.

What are your best races? – DUS Marathon Relay (10km in 53min) and DUS B2Run (6km in 30 min).

What is your favorite domestic pet? – I have none. But if I did, it would be a dog.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – My first time driving on the apron and visiting the Tower.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – I think it will be my fifth or sixth time visiting Budapest. I used to play waterpolo and Hungary is world famous for its waterpolo teams. Hence, I took part in several tournaments and training sessions with my team. However, after the Runway Run it is now definitely time for some sight-seeing.

Michael Hohenecker

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Head of Data Management and Examination of Construction.

What is your hometown? – Düsseldorf / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – Keep fit runner with approach to competitive.

What is your training regime? – It is never enough training, but it is satisfying.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – Unfortunately not, but great idea and I am looking forward to BUD.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Not only when I am flying, but they also help to fly!

What are your best races? – Half Marathon at Düsseldorf Himmelgeist – beautiful track layout, lovely people, 1:47.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – One´s weaker self.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – Finishing the creation of our new terminal and unforgettable the brilliant time again and again with our DUS running gang.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – I´ve been there for several times and I love it so much.

Jürgen Weber

What is your hometown? – Essen / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – Keep fit runner.

What is your training regime? – Never enough.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – Unfortunately not.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Yes of course.

What are your best races? – Half Marathon Dusseldorf Himmelgeist (beautiful landscape), 1:54.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – My dog, in the night my wife!

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – After 34 years here, the airport is my life and every day an experience.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – It´s my first time in Budapest and I looking forward to discovering it.

Anne Schäffer

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Business Analysis Assistant.

What is your hometown? – Essen – a city near the Ruhr.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – I just run for fun, to keep me fit and healthy.

What is your training regime? – It depends on the next competition – before a marathon I run more than 80k a week. Mostly after work with our running group and at the weekend in the morning.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – No, never and I´m looking forward to it!

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Definitely.

What are your best races? – I ran the Metro Marathon in Düsseldorf within 3 hours and 59 minutes.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – I have no pet, but I prefer turtles.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – The first time I drove a truck for winter services across the runway.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – I´ve been in Budapest before, but it was a long time ago. I look forward to discovering the city again.

Yildiray Saracbasi

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Quality Manager Airport Security.

What is your hometown? – Duisburg / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – A recreational/keep fit runner.

What is your training regime? – 25k per week.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – No I haven´t.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Yes I do.

What are your best races? – Marathon 3:58h and 10 km in 45 minutes.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – A dog, but I don´t have one.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – There are many. I have been working at the airport for 25 years.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – Yes it´s my first time in Budapest. Not yet.

Jörn Schneppendahl

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Manager Baggage Transport System.

What is your hometown? – Ratingen, Mettmann / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – Recreational/keep fit runner.

What is your training regime – 10-20 kilometres per week.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – No.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Not always.

What is your best race – Best Half Marathon: Düsseldorf 1hr 46 min.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – Dogs.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – Every day at the airport is exciting- I love the airport.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – Yes and No.

Janine Kolo

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Safety Expert.

What is your hometown? – Düsseldorf / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – A little bit of both.

What is your training regime? – During the week I run after work, at the weekend I run after breakfast. Between 25 and 60 kilometers.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – Yes, on the Tempelhof field in Berlin.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – Definitely.

What are your best races? – the METRO marathon in Düsseldorf this year in 4:18:59h.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – I do not have one.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – The first time driving alone with the car over the apron. I was very nervous.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – This is my first time in Budapest and I hope we have some time to explore the city.

Constanze Fischer

Position at Düsseldorf Airport – Architectural Draftswoman.

What is your hometown? – Düsseldorf / Germany.

Are you a fanatically competitive or a recreational/keep fit runner? – A competitive runner.

What is your training regime? – Different distances and mostly in the evening.

Have you ever run on a runway before? – No.

Do you always take your running shoes when you fly? – No.

What are your best races? – Marathon in Düsseldorf; 10 kilometers in 48 minutes.

What is your favorite domestic pet? – I do not have a favourite domestic pet.

Describe your most exciting moment at the airport? – I had a lot exiting moments but the most exciting moment was my first day at the airport.

Will this be your first time in Budapest and do you have any touristic plans? – Yes, it is my first trip to Budapest.

Teams and individuals from numerous airlines, airports and other aviation enterprises have already signed up for the Budapest Airport-anna.aero Runway Run 6.0 which offers two race lengths (5km = two runway lengths and 10km = four runway lengths). The race benefits child cancer charities and other good causes – as most airlines and airports already have major charity commitments, there’s no need for participants to raise big cash sponsorship targets – competitors just have to pay an entrance fee of €35 (rising to €60 on 1 July so get in quick) with 100% of this sum donated to the benefiting charities.
