Passengers on the inaugural Transavia flight between Eindhoven and Rijeka were greeted by traditional frula playing on 5 July. Apparently the frula is a traditional instrument of shepherds, who would play while tending their flocks. Maybe this choice of welcoming was planned to help shepherd the first passengers towards the immigration counters more smoothly. The LCC will offer a twice-weekly (Thursdays and Sundays) service on the route until 2 September.
- Transavia commenced its latest route from Eindhoven (EIN) on 5 July, launching a twice-weekly (Thursdays and Sundays) service to Rijeka (RJK) in Croatia. The LCC will serve the 969-kilometre route using its fleet of 737-800s, with no other airline presently flying on this city pair. The carrier plans to operate the summer seasonal route until 2 September. Rijeka becomes the first destination that Transavia flies to in Croatia from Eindhoven, however the carrier already serves Dubrovnik (three times weekly), Pula (four times weekly) and Split (daily) from its base at Rotterdam this summer based on OAG Schedules Analyser data. According to data sourced from Rijeka Airport, the Croatian facility processed 52,081 passengers during H1 2018, up by over 37% versus the 37,930 people it handled during H1 2017. For all of 2017, the airport greeted 142,111 passengers. See how Rijeka Airport’s FTWA compares to others from around the world.
