Spirit Airlines adds Central America and Caribbean from Orlando
On 4 October Spirit Airlines launched four routes from Orlando to Central America and the Caribbean, namely Aguadilla, Guatemala City, Panama City and Santo Domingo. Services to San Jose in Costa Rica, San Pedro Sula and San Salvador launched over the following days. A ribbon cutting was performed to open the first four routes. Among those conducting proceedings were: Vicki Jaramillo, Senior Director Marketing & Air Service Development, Orlando Airport (left); Matt Klein, SVP and CCO, Spirit Airlines (second right); and Lissa Curtin, Manager Business Development, Orlando Airport (right). A cake was also made to commemorate the first departure to Guatemala City.
- Spirit Airlines, which recently announced that it will open a crew base at Orlando (MCO) during Q4 2018, initiated seven new routes to destinations in Central America and the Caribbean this week. The ULCC now links the Florida airport to Aguadilla (BQN), Guatemala City (GUA), Panama City (PTY), Santo Domingo (SDQ), San Jose (SJO), San Pedro Sula (SAP) and San Salvador (SAL). Apart from the 1,593-kilometre sector to San Pedro Sula, the remaining six routes will face direct competition, while all seven will be flown using the carrier’s 145-seat A319s. See how Aguadilla and San Pedro Sula airports FTWAs compare to others from around the world.
