flydubai commenced flights to its latest European destination on 11 October, beginning a daily service between Dubai and Helsinki. The carrier will operate the 4,535-kilometre route using its 737 MAX 8s.
- flydubai has become the latest carrier to begin services from Helsinki (HEL). With Pobeda having added the Finnish capital to its network last week with a new service from Moscow Vnukovo, flydubai has launched daily services to Helsinki from Dubai (DXB).The UAE-based carrier launched the 4,535-kilometre route on 11 October, with it planning to offer a daily service between the two airports using its fleet of 737 MAX 8s, which according to the most recent data from Flightradar24.com, currently stands at seven aircraft. Competition on the city pair comes from Finnair which offers a three times weekly link, while it should also be noted that from the winter season Norwegian will resume its seasonal service between the two airports. Services will code-share with Emirates, with the MEB3 member flight code on the Helsinki sector being EK 2498, while on the inbound leg to Dubai it is EK 2499. flydubai’s flight codes on the route are FZ 783 and FZ 784. With regards to Middle East hub connectivity, it should be noted that Qatar Airways offers a twice-daily service between Doha and Helsinki, with this being the main connectivity competition for flydubai and its code-share partner Emirates from Finland. When referencing OAG Traffic Analyser data, it reveals that Qatar Airways’ leading connecting destinations for Helsinki-originating traffic in 2017 were Denpasar, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Colombo, with these likely to be strong connecting markets for flydubai and Emirates too.
