- Avianca expanded its network from Bogota (BOG) on 16 November, commencing a five times weekly transatlantic service to Munich (MUC), with this service becoming the latter airport’s only direct flight to South America, while the European city becomes the airline’s only destination in Germany from Bogota. The Star Alliance member will serve the 9,310-kilometre city pair using its fleet of 787-8s. The following day saw the airline commence a second new service from the Colombian capital, with it inaugurating a four times weekly service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) on 17 November. The airline will operate the latter 4,360-kilometre city pair four times weekly using its fleet of A319s. When referencing OAG Schedules Analyser data, neither route launched by the airline from Bogota will face direct competition. Along with Munich, the Star carrier also serves Barcelona, London Heathrow and Madrid in Europe from Bogota, while in the US it already links to Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Orlando, Miami, New York JFK and Washington Dulles from its base at the Colombian capital airport.
