Tulcea Airport seeks airlines for scheduled routes via public tender
Tulcea County Council and Tulcea Airport will announce on 3 December 2018 an invitation to airlines to take part in a public tender, as they seek to link the region to a number of European destinations, namely Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Franfurt and Paris. These services are considered to be vital for the economic and social development of the region, which currently doesn’t feature any scheduled routes to/from its main gateway – Tulcea Airport.
Geographically, Tulcea County is located in the southern-eastern part of Romania, bordered by the Danube in the north and west as well as the Black Sea in the east. The region offers a multitude of historical sites and places of worship with high architectural value and heritage. As a matter of fact, Tulcea County includes the Danube Delta and Razim–Sinoe Lake Complex, which are part of the UNESCO world natural heritage. With very limited access due to the poor road and railway infrastructure, the main gateway to this region is Tulcea Airport which features a 2-hour driving time catchment area of 2.3 million people. Nowadays, the airport is served by charter and private services only; therefore, the development of scheduled links is a focal point for both Tulcea County Council and Tulcea Airport.
To ensure an even better visibility to this region, the local authorities are looking forward to connecting Tulcea with the following six destinations:
|Destination (Country)||Maximum Weekly Frequencies|
|Source: Tulcea Airport.|
Based on the above, they plan to award a compensation of the provision of public services to the winners of the tender. The start-up aid will cover up to 50% from airport charges regarding a route for a maximum period of three years.
The tender’s technical documentation can be requested by airlines in writing accompanied by a copy of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Operating Licence from Tulcea County Council’s HQ starting from 3 December 2018: (Tulcea County Council, 20 Pacii Street, postal code 820033, Tulcea, Romania; Phone: +40 240 502252; Fax: +40 240 513071). The deadline for submitting offers is 15 January 2019 at 12:00 RO local time.
