Qatar Airways debuts in Lisbon

In order to celebrate the union of the two cities, amongst other celebrations, in Lisbon a giant cake was made with two monuments for each of the cities to commemorate this new route. For Lisbon, the Belém Tower; for Doha, the Spiral Mosque. The special cake weighed 44 kg, and had a variety of different flavours to please both cultures.

  • Qatar Airways launched a new service between its Doha (DOH) hub to Lisbon (LIS) on 24 June. According to OAG Schedules Analyser the 5,808-kilometre sector distance will operate daily on the Doha-based carriers fleet of B787s, and will face no direct competition. Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive, Qatar Airways commented on the inaugural launch, “The direct services to Lisbon is the latest addition to Qatar Airways’ rapidly expanding European network. We look forward to welcoming business and leisure travellers alike on board so that they may experience this vibrant destination, one of the oldest capitals in Western Europe. The new route will provide passengers travelling from Lisbon access to Qatar Airways’ extensive global route network of more than 160 destinations around the world.”
