Thai AirAsia X touches down in Brisbane

Attending the inaugural route launch was AirAsia Regional Commercial Head, Matana Thienthong; General Manager Aviation Development and Partnerships for Brisbane Airport, Jim Parashos; Minister for Tourism Industry Development, Kate Jones; CEO, Brisbane Airport Gert-Jan de Graaff; Deputy Mayor of Brisbane, Krista Adams; AirAsia X Thailand Chief Financial Officer, Phairat Pornpathananangoon and CEO Tourism and Events of Queensland, Leanne Coddington.

  • Thai AirAsia X launched its latest service between Don Mueang (DMK) and Brisbane (BNE) on 26 June. The carrier will utilise a fleet of A330s to cover the 9 hour flight between both cities, which will operate three times a week. According to OAG Schedules Analyser Thai AirAsia X will be the sole operator of this route long-haul spanning a sector distance of 7,284-kilometres. AirAsia hosted a special welcoming ceremony for passengers of the inaugural flight both in Bangkok and Brisbane, affirming itself as Thailand’s first low-cost long-haul carrier to connect the Kingdom and Australia. The event was well received by both Thai and international travellers and reflected the airline’s excitement in creating a new travel opportunity and increasing the earning potential of Thailand’s tourism sector.
