Air Chathams lands in Norfolk Island from Auckland

Air Chathams Auckland to Norfolk Island

Auckland-Norfolk Island by Air Chathams: a once-weekly scheduled service by the Convair 580. It’s the most exotic of new routes. The airline’s general manager, Duane Emeny, said: “We are really encouraged by the early interest we’ve had from passengers, with forward bookings indicating it’s going to be another successful route for our family airline.” And family it is: Duane was the first officer on the flight, while his Dad – the airline’s CEO – was captain.

  • Air Chathams began a once-weekly service between Auckland and Norfolk Island on 06 September.  The airline had been operating charters between the two, but this is now a scheduled operation. Indeed, it’s the airline’s first international scheduled service.  It is operated by the ultra-rare Convair 580, of which the airline has four in different configurations.  Auckland-Norfolk Island has seen airlines come and go. Air New Zealand Link ended it in 2017, and, afterwards, Norfolk Islands Airlines, using Nauru Airlines aircraft, began both Brisbane and Auckland – and ended in 2018.  Norfolk Island is 1,090 kilometres from New Zealand, and is actually closer to New Caledonia. New everywhere!
