Skytrans launches Cairns to Horn Island to Bamaga route

Skytrans’ Cairns to Horn Island to Bamaga service

Skytrans’ Captain Scott Haywood and First Officer Apara Brewster enjoy cupcakes, which were shared with the passengers, to celebrate the inaugural service on the Cairns to Horn Island to Bamaga route.

Skytrans has begun operating on the Cairns to Horn Island to Bamaga route. Horn Island to Bamaga is the shortest regular passenger flight with a high capacity aircraft in Australia, taking just 10 minutes in Skytrans’ DH1 aircraft. It operates shorter flights around the Torres Strait Islands in its caravan fleet, which connects 11 islands to Horn Island.

Pre-COVID Skytrans operated a limited Cairns to Horn Island service, but is now flying four times a week increasing to five in September. It also has a codeshare with Rebel Ferries, allowing passengers to Thursday Island to connect at Horn Island with all of Skytrans’ flights.

On 13 September, Skytrans launches another route from Cairns to Whitsunday Coast and Rockhampton, marking its first commercial passenger flights outside North Queensland.
